The RG (Registro Geral) is Brazil's civil identity card. It is issued by the Public Security Departments (Secretarias de Segurança Pública) of each state and is the main form of identification for Brazilian citizens in many situations.
RG SSP SP
An RG issued in São Paulo follows the format of the state's Public Security Department (SSP SP). It uses a specific numeric structure with a check digit to ensure the data is authentic and consistent.
How RG validation works
RG validation is based on the check digit. This digit is derived from the previous digits using weights from 2 to 9 and the remainder of the division by 11; a result of 10 is written as the letter X. If the calculated value matches the last character entered, the RG is considered valid.
Why validate an RG?
- Check data stored in your systems
- Catch typos
- Keep registration records consistent
- Test applications and forms
Note: This tool only validates the mathematical structure of the RG. It does not check whether the document exists or belongs to a real person.
